Celsius. A Beverage for You?
June 28, 2007
I’m always in search of foods and drinks that taste good and are still good for you. I met Janice at the IHRSA conference in March and was impressed with both the taste and the science behind her product, Celsius. I also agree with the way they market Celsius as a beverage alternative, not as a weight loss plan.
Celsius is a great beverage alternative to drinking soda. It comes in five different flavors and each bottle is only 10 calories. But in addition to being low-calorie, it raises your metabolism to help you burn additional calories! To find out more - watch the interview in Fit Life 015!
from the Celsius website:
Celsius is designed to be a great replacement beverage for people that like the taste of a soda, the energy of an energy drink or coffee, but don’t want the calories and chemicals that are found in them. Celsius is unique in that it is designed to be as natural as possible. Celsius has no chemical preservatives, no carbs, no sugar, no high fructose corn syrup, and is very low sodium. And Celsius is loaded with good for you ingredients such as Green Tea with EGCG, Ginger, Calcium, Chromium, B Vitamins, and Vitamin C.

Benecol Chews are Here!
June 28, 2007
I have had high cholesterol since I was 16. It’s hereditary and I’ll live but it hit its high at 252 about 3 years ago. I refuse to take medication for several reasons and niacin, a supplement that is frequently recommended to lower cholesterol, gave me awful side effects. The one thing that I have been continually doing since college is eat Benecol spread instead of butter. It basically helps to lower the bad cholesterol and raise the good. I have had good success with it and will continue to take it as long as my cholesterol continues to come down. Benecol is now offering caramel chews as an option for those of us who can’t always get the recommended amount of the spread. They are only available online through Amazon but you get free shipping and in the month of July, you save an additional $5. If you have been waiting for these like I have - here’s the link…

Marathon Mishaps
June 27, 2007
I am not a runner. However, I would like to finish a marathon someday. Why? I have no idea but it seems that it would be the ultimate athletic and mental challenge for me. I don’t have plans to do this immediately but I came across this article from Forbes and thought it might be helpful to some of you as well.

Thoughts on Childhood Obesity
June 25, 2007
The discussion about the causes and consequences of childhood obesity are everywhere. This is good, maybe awareness will bring about change in this situation. It seems to me that there are a couple factors that are consistently contributing to the kids involved. The first is that the parents do not have sufficient nutritional understanding about what is in the food they are eating themselves and then feeding to their kids. The second is that the parents are afraid to be the “bad guy.” It seems that the days have passed where “because I said so,” “I know best,” and “you’ll thank me later” from our parents were all reasons to comply to their requests. Why is junk food in the house? Why are temper tantrums being rewarded? Why are kids running the show? Now, I’m looking at this all from the health and fitness prospective - I’m not a parent - Can someone who is please help me understand what they think the issues are and how to turn this whole thing around?
Quote from Men’s Health article Raise a Smarter, Healthier Child by Scott Quill …
