Addicted To My Brookstone Projection Clock!
March 27, 2009
For the past few years, I have had a projection clock that shows me the time on the ceiling above the bed at night. It started with not being able to see the clock across the room without putting on my glasses (and that is just no fun) in the middle of the night. I thought maybe after Lasik, I wouldn’t want or need the time on the ceiling anymore in VERY large numbers. However, I think I enjoy it even more because I was able to make the numbers a bit smaller and as I roll over, I can see the time and know exactly how long I have left to sleep! People always ask if the light keeps me up but I don’t notice it at all! I actually think the little glow might be comforting.
My clock stopped working last week and I was completely distraught. I thought I was going to have to purchase a new one. Luckily, Brookstone.com has them for a very reasonable $30. However, I got out my toolset and was able to adjust the cord and restore order to my beloved projection clock, therefore avoiding purchasing a new one. It got me to thinking about how much I love that clock, though, and I thought I would share it with all of you. In addition, I have a Brookstone.com discount code: SHOWFIT so you can save 10% on your purchase*.

Cost Of Organic Food, Worth It?
March 25, 2009
We are all cracking down on our budgets and eliminating extra costs, trying to cut out anything that we don’t need -so are organic foods a necessity? What a tough question. Your health and safety are among your type priorities but at what financial burden? I’ve always been told that if you have to pick and choose what foods to go organic, follow these rules:
1 – If it has a think skin, you don’t have to buy organic…avocados, bananas, oranges.
2 – If you eat the skin, you should buy organic…potatoes, tomatoes, strawberries. (Coffee is included in this category.)
3 – Milk and meat should be organic because there could have been hormones and/or antibiotics used on the animal.
4 – Any food that you eat an abundance of… if you have an apple a day, then go organic to reduce overall amount of ingested pesticides.
Every article, blog, column and person has a different idea of what your organic priorities should be. Each time I read about this topic, I become more educated and confused. Who to believe, trust and what are the consequences?
What are your rules and requirements?

Michelle Obama and Amy Mac’s Organic Gardens!
March 23, 2009
Michelle Obama and I are both adjusting to our new surroundings after relocating in January. We are also both planning and starting our own organic kitchen gardens. There are a few differences, of course, my garden is 32 square feet and Michelle’s is 1,100 square feet. Michelle has a team of people to help her maintain her garden, while Chris and I will be doing all of our manual labor. Despite any differences, the goal is the same – sustainability. We are both growing healthy, pesticide-free vegetables to enjoy in the months to come.
Chris and I are working off of a square foot gardening plan developed by Mel Bartholomew, which allows us to grow the same amount of vegetables of a 160-foot garden, in just 32 square feet.
We will also be adding some Topsy Turvys for our pepper and tomato plants. At this point, we are in the beginning stages and have built our raised box, added soil and started our seeds indoors.
Today, I’m going to make our compost bin so we can begin recycling our food waste and create nutrient rich soil for our continuous planting.

Big thanks to Holland from thefattrainerbook.com for the nice blog post about WithAmyMac.com! He contacted me a few weeks ago and wanted a bit more info on my thoughts about exercise and fitness. Its always fun to talk with someone else about health and fitness. Holland is a personal trainer as well and is working on losing the weight and becoming healthy himself. Best of luck to him, I’m looking forward to the release of his book — hope I get a sneak peek!
Thanks Holland!

Amy Mac Reviews the Wii Fit
March 17, 2009
The Nintendo Wii has been a huge success and its not just for gamers. Of all the gaming consoles out there, the Wii has been the most popular with families. I know from experience how much fun it can be and yet I wanted to put it to the test of being more than just a good time. With the $90 purchase of the Wii Fit, I wondered if my exercise world would be turned upside down. Balance tests, yoga, skiing, soccer, hula hooping, strength training and aerobics are all offered in this game and I wanted to know if it really would be the end of ‘working out’ and the beginning of ‘playing around’ to lose weight. There are pros and cons to everything and all of that is discussed in this Fit Life video. I’m a newbie to this whole Wii Fit thing, so I’ve got lots to learn and discover and I’ll keep you posted along the way!
What do you think about the Wii Fit? Post a comment and let me know!
