Folic Acid Vitamins

… only 54 days until the book release!

Numerous studies over the years have concluded that taking a folate supplement (also known as folic acid) could help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Recently, however, a study has come out challenging those results finding instead that there is no reduction of risk. Notably, that study followed people who were either already struggling with heart disease or had previously suffered a heart attack. I’m no expert, but I’m not sure that these recent findings truly undermine the previous studies.

Importantly, studies have found that folic acid is important in pre- and early pregnancy care. Additionally, it is thought that taking a folate supplement may reduce the risk of certain cancers and Alzheimer’s disease. While the debate may continue as to what, if any, impact folic acid has on reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, I think we are certain that taking the supplement does have its benefits.
