Benefits of Group Exercise

When you’re intimidated, overwhelmed or frustrated in a group exercise class, should you give up and opt for the elliptical machine instead?  Absolutely not!

In many of these instances, I will take some time to become accustomed to the class styles, formats and instructors before I wave the white flag.  Try to remember that most everyone else in the class is probably a regular, which means they already know the flow of the class and have learned the “standards” used by the instructor.

I like to follow the “Three Strike” rule when faced with a challenge like this.  Give yourself at least three complete classes before moving on and deciding that kickboxing, spin or step is not for you.  Keep in mind, also, that personality plays a huge role in a class.  If the instructor isn’t speaking your language on cues or motivation, then simply take action and find one that does!
