I know this is an odd statement so let me elaborate on commonly asked questions…<\/p>\n

What is a ban on ‘S restaurants?<\/h2>\n

Well, I’m so glad you asked. In the last few years, I’ve been trying to eat more local, all natural foods that are minimally processed. Plus, supporting local businesses instead of corporations is an added bonus. ‘S restaurants tend to have more processed, high calorie menu items, serve bottomless baskets of bread and serve RIDICULOUS portion sizes.<\/p>\n

What are ‘S restaurants?<\/h2>\n

You might not have noticed but it seems that nearly every corporate chain restaurant has an ‘S at the end:<\/p>\n

Applebee’s, Chili’s, O’Charley’s, Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Friday’s, Popeye’s, Logan’s, Houston’s, Bennigan’s… Mind-blowing, isn’t it?<\/p>\n

Now, there are exceptions to every rule but seriously, it casts a pretty good net over places that are sabotaging your diet!<\/p>\n

What if we only have ‘S Restaurants in my town?<\/h2>\n

Ah yes, I grew up in one of these towns. Never fear, you can work around the system.<\/p>\n

First, you know my basic rules, grilled instead of fried, dressing on the side and no gigantic portions!<\/p>\n

Now some of these restaurants have “500 Calorie Meals” – this is a good start but don’t hold them to it. No 2 dishes are made exact so the portion that you are served may not be the same portion that was calculated for the menu.<\/p>\n

Finally, take control and make requests for your dish to be made healthier, order off the lunch or appetizer menu and portion your food out as soon as its served so you don’t overeat.I frequently use my knife to half the dish and then make an ‘off limits’ eating area. This also makes for a great lunch the next day!<\/p>\n

Don’t forget to drink water and skip appetizers and desserts!<\/p>\n

Avoiding these restaurants is just an easy way to take control of your food, your diet and support your local community! Think outside the ‘S!<\/p>\n
