HIIT

You’ve probably already heard about interval training and its cardiovascular benefits.  But, have you heard about HIIT?

HIIT stands for “high intensity interval training”, and refers to a specific program that focuses on jogging and then sprinting full speed at thirty second intervals.  The whole program will last anywhere from four to fifteen minutes.  It is designed to really push your heart, muscles and coordination and to burn tons of calories, without the endless running to nowhere on a treadmill.

This type of program should really only be practiced by the hardcore, in-shape crowd.  If this isn’t you, though, you can adopt the idea and modify it to work for you.  Try using the concept of intervals to give yourself a challenge and push yourself during your workouts.  It’s always great to rotate between endurance cardio and strength cardio.
