Hi Amy,

I did the math for that granola! hehe

old-fashioned oats – 2 cups – (300 cals; 6g fat; 54g carb; 10g pro)
wheat germ – 1/2 cup – (215 cals; 6g fat; 28g carb; 16.5g pro)
sugar – 2 tablespoons – (96 cals; 0g fat; 25.2g carb; 0g pro) (using 3 tsp = 1 tbsp)
salt – 1/4 teaspoon – (just a lil pinch no cal/fat/carb/pro – much sodium tho, don’t overdo)
honey – 1/3 cup – (344 cals; 0g fat; 93g carb; .34g pro)

here’s where it can vary a lot:
other – 1 cup –
sliced almonds – (529 cals; 45g fat; 20g carb; 20g pro)
cinnamon (maybe a 1 teaspoon) (6 cals; 0g fat; 1g carb; 0g pro)

I got geeky with this :)

1 tablespoon = .0625 cups
1 teaspoon = .0208 cups

so:
2 cups + .5 cups + .125 cups + .333 cups + 1 cup + .0208 cups = 3.9788 cups (approx 4 cups)

divide this by 1/3 cup for serving size = 11.95 servings (12 servings) perfect size for lil yogurt cups
divide this by 1/2 cup for serving size = 5.975 servings (6 servings)

here comes the nutritional math :)
for 1/3 cup servings
cals = 300+215+96+344+529+6 = 1490 total — 124 cals/serving
fat = 6+6+45 = 57g total — 4.75g fat/serving
carbs = 54+28+25.2+93+20+1 = 221.2g total — 18.4g carb/serving
protein = 10+16.5+.34+20 = 46.84g total — 3.9g pro/serving

for 1/2 cup servings
cals = 300+215+96+344+529+6 = 1490 total — 248 cals/serving
fat = 6+6+45 = 57g total — 9.5g fat/serving
carbs = 54+28+25.2+93+20+1 = 221.2g total — 36.9g carb/serving
protein = 10+16.5+.34+20 = 46.84g total — 7.8g pro/serving

Do you know of a way to make the loose granola into granola bars without adding a lot of fat and calories?

Thanks,
Dreux

P.S. Still love the podcasts!

The answer to making the granola into bars is to add more honey and then form them as they cool.
