BEER NUTRITION FACTS
The debate over whether red or white wine is the healthier alcoholic beverage might be over, and there is a surprise winner! Out of nowhere, beer (the favored underdog of many) has come out of the gates with plenty of power.
As it turns out, beer is a source of antioxidants because it contains hops, which is the plant that gives beer its flavor. According to recent studies, beer is a contender with wine when it comes to antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that help to prevent high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease and stroke.
Beer also contains silicon, which is a mineral that can safeguard bone. Surprisingly, beer contains even more silicon than most fruits and vegetables. This can lead to increased bone density in both men and women.
Remember that the benefits are only effective when you have one glass or less of beer per day. Any more than that and you will negate the good affects and move in the opposite direction.
Quick Tip: India pale ales, porters, and stouts contain more hops than lagers, pilsners and wheat beers. If you’re looking to get more of those beneficial antioxidants, try sticking with the first three options over the others!
